Evangeline Lilly has hopped on board The Hobbit.
The actress, best known for portraying Kate on Lost, will portray a woodland elf named Tauriel. She’s a new character to the series, as teased by Peter Jackson on his Facebook page:
“Her name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’ and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing!” the director wrote. “What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life.”
Lily co-starred on Lost with Dominic Monaghan, who played a major role in The Lord of the Rings. The actress and actor dated for awhile, too.
The first installment in this franchise, titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, hits theaters on 12/14/12.
